A Community Hub in Trewint Playing Field has long been seen as an ideal location for a local medical facility. The imminent closure of the existing Rock surgery has brought this issue into sharp focus. The planned Community Hub includes a medical facility but realistically this is two to three years in the future.
Local nurse led services and prescription collection facilities are considered to be so important to the community that the St Minver Community Hub CIO has committed to organise, manage and underwrite the cost of a purpose-built temporary building in the Trewint Playing Field car park that the Wadebridge and Camel Estuary Practice will staff for two mornings a week. The Practice will fund the staff and pay a rent for use of the facility but are unable to fund the purchase of the building.
In a year the Rock surgery provides some 2,000 nursing appointments and distributes some 10,000 prescriptions. The potential 12,000 trips to Wadebridge for these services at typical fuel and parking costs could amount to a charge on the local community of some £60,000 per year, let alone the time and inconvenience of the journey and the difficulty in negotiating the path from parking to the Surgery. That annual figure is significantly more than the total cost of providing the temporary building that spread across the 1100 patients from Rock registered with the Practice is less than £30 per person.
The St Minver Community Hub CIO has a plan to raise £850,000 for the new Community Hub through grants, events and donations but in double quick time it needs some £25,000 to fund the temporary Health Hub. We hope you agree with the need for this essential local health care facility and are able to donate to the cause.
