Closure of Rock Surgery and Next Steps

Closure of Rock Surgery and Next Steps

The St Minver Community Hub CIO continues to work with the Wadebridge and Camel Estuary Practice to deliver the interim Health Hub at the Trewint Playing Field Site. The cabin design was complete and the order placed with an anticipated delivery of Mid May to enable a smooth transition between the surgery closing at the end of May and the new Health Hub opening on the 2 June 2020.

However, due to the Covid crisis staff at the manufacturers were furloughed and manufacturing delayed. Work has restarted and it is now expected that the cabin will be delivered early in July.

Unfortunately we were not aware that the date for the closure of the Rock surgery could not be extended and it closed on the 30th May as originally planned. We now understand that this was due to a number of factors such as existing service contracts for pharmacy, dispensing, courier, clinical waste, telephones and technical services needed to be terminated and notice had been given. Consequently, the closure of the Rock surgery and the opening of the Health Hub could not coincide as planned.

This means that, very sadly, we cannot have the smooth transition we planned and we have to delay opening the Health Hub until we can take delivery of and set up the cabin.  In the interim, nurse led and prescription services will be provided in the Wadebridge Surgery until we are ready here in Rock. The present prescription delivery service to patients in Rock will continue, normally on Thursday each week.

This does not mean that there is any change in commitment from either the St Minver Community Hub CIO or the doctors’ practice to deliver this much needed Health Hub. The nurse led services and prescription collection/pick-up service at Rock will be re-started as soon as possible.

Disappointing though it is, we hope that you understand the situation that we find ourselves in.  We would like to thank you for your continuing support and reassure you that we will all do our best to have the Health Hub operational as soon as possible.

Disappointing but understandable given how few live here!

It would be good to understand what services the new hub will offer, once operational.
